Type locality: "São Bento, Estado de Santa Catharina, Brazil." [=São Bento do Sul, northeastern Santa Catarina State, southern Brazil, 26˚15'S, 49˚23'W].  
Reproductionovovivparous 
TypesHolotype: IBSP (= IB) 526, a 510 mm male (A. Swarowsky, April 1914). 
Diagnosis 
CommentBelongs to the Tachymenini, together with 6 other genera (BAILEY 1967).

Type species: Ptychophis flavovirgatus GOMES 1915 is the type species of the genus Ptychophis GOMES 1915.
