DistributionAustralia (E New South Wales, SE Queensland)

Type locality: “Nouvelle-Guinée et à la Nouvelle-Hollande”’ restricted to Kangaroo Is., Qld. (although Cogger 1983 erroneously says Kangaroo Island, South Australia). Map legend:
TDWG region - Region according to the TDWG standard, not a precise distribution map.

NOTE: TDWG regions are generated automatically from the text in the distribution field and not in every cases it works well. We are working on it.
TypesLectotype: MNHN Paris (= MNHP) 268, from Kangaroo Is., S. A. (from Australia and New Guinea in original description), designation by Cogger, H. G. (1983).
Paralectotypes: from Port Jackson, N. S. W., King George’ s Sound, W. A. and New Guinea; for remaining paralectotype see Diplodactylus vittatus]; see also synonymy of Diplodactylus vittatus Gray, 1832 (fide COGGER 1983).
CommentType species: Phyllodactylus Lesueurii DUMÉRIL & BIBRON 1836 is the type species of the genus Amalosia Wells and Wellington, 1984.

Definition (genus): A genus of the Diplodactylidae (sensu Han et al., 2004) distinguished from all genera formally placed in the genus Oedura by the combination of (1) small size (<62 mm), (2) dorsal scales minute, granular and much smaller than ventrals, (3) more than one enlarged cloacal spur, (4) karyotype of 2n = 36, and (5) dorsal pattern generally including at least a broken vertebral stripe. Characters 1–2 and 4–5 all specifically diagnose this genus from the redefined Oedura [from OLIVER et al. 2012].

The type series of Phyllodactylus Lesueurii Duméril & Bibron 1836 seems to be composite. For further discussion of this and additional references see Bauer 1994.

Oedura jacovae sp. nov. is not conspecific with the lectotypes of O. rhombifer (BMNH xxii.3a) or O. lesueurii (MNHN 268).

Karyotype: 2n = 36 (King 1987)
