CommentSynonymy: O’SHAUGHNESSY 1869: 187 synonymized Anolis tropidonotus with N. auratus. Populations from Guatemala, Honduras, Nicaragua, El Salvador have been assigned to other species, e.g. Norops wilsoni, N. mccraniei (see KÖHLER et al. 2016: 27 (Fig. 9).

Subspecies: Anolis tropidonotus spilorhipis ALVAREZ DEL TORO & SMITH 1956 has been elevated to full species status by KÖHLER et al. 2016.

Relative abundance in Honduras: common

Species group: Norops auratus Species Group (fide Nicholson et al. 2012). Norops tropidonotus complex: N. compressicauda, N. tropidonotus, N. wampuensis, Norops mccraniei, Norops wilsoni, N. spilorhipis fide Köhler et al. 2016.
