Diagnosis
CommentSynonymy: Apostolepis pymi has been removed from synonymy with A. coronata by DE LEMA & RENNER 1998. Elapomorphus nigrolineatus PETERS 1869 is listed as a synonym of Apostolepis flavotorquata by BAUER et al. 1995 although DE LEMA states that “Apostolepis pymi is [...] Apostolepis nigrolineata” (pers. comm.). See also DE LEMA 1997. LEMA & ALBUQUERQUE (2010) synonymized quinquelineatus with nigrolineatus but revalidated pymi. Curcio et al. (2011) redescribed A. longicaudata and recognize A. pymi as a synonym of A. nigrolineata without further comments. As shown by Lema & Albuquerque (2010), however, A. nigrolineata and A. pymi can be distinguished from each other by a suite of coloration and tail shape characters and should be treated as distinct.

The background color of A. nigrolineata is reddish brown (vs. brown in A. pymi ). In addition, only the dorsal region of end of tail is covered by a black band (vs. end of tail completely surrounded by a black band in A. pymi).
EtymologyNamed after J. Pym, who owned the single male specimen upon which Boulenger based his description. Pym's collection was acquired by the Natural History Museum, London, after his death.
