CommentRelationships: Mabuya, Marisora, and Aspronema are paraphyletic in the phylogenetic analysis of Pereira & Schrago 2017.

Synonymy following that of CEI 1993.

Type species: Mabuia dorsovittata COPE 1862 is the type species of the genus Aspronema HEDGES & CONN 2012. The gender is neuter. 
EtymologyEtymology (genus). The generic name (Aspronema) is a neuter noun derived from the Greek adjective aspro (white) and noun nema (thread), referring to the distinctive narrow and white dorsolateral and ventrolateral stripes present in species of this genus [HEDGES & CONN 2012].
