Not listed for San Luis Potosí by Lemos-Espinal et al. 2018 (checklist SLP). Not in Durango fide Lemos-Espinal (2018). Not in Sinaloa (Lemos-Espinal & Smith 2020). Reports from Quéretaro are now assigned to B. ciliaris, hence the species does not occur in Quéretaro fide Tepos-Ramírez et al. 2023.

Type species: Gerrhonotus imbricatus WIEGMANN 1828 is the type species of the genus Barisia GRAY 1838: 390.

EtymologyThe name imbricata is derived from the Latin imbricatus (overlapping, like roofing tiles and shingles) and refers to the overlapping dorsal scales.
