Diagnosis 
CommentVenomous!

Subspecies: Bitis gabonica rhinoceros has been elevated to valid species, Bitis (Macrocerastes) rhinoceros. Following Chippaux, B. gabonica has two dark triangles below eye and B. rhinoceros only one behind eye.
