TypesType: BMNH 1946.1.14.1 (and possibly additional specimens). 
CommentBothrophthalmus lineatus brunneus (GÜNTHER 186 hs been elevated to species level although its status is still controversial (GOSSMANN et al. 2002, HUGHES 2000).

Distribution: not listed for Togo by Segniagbeto et al. 2012.

Type species: Elaphis (Bothophthalmus) lineatus PETERS 186 is the type species of the genus Bothrophthalmus PETERS 186. 
EtymologyNamed after Latin “linea”, meaning stripe or line.
