Synonymy: Brachyseps splendidus has been “tentatively” assigned to the genus Brachyseps by Erens et al. 2017.

Type species: Gongylus splendidus Grandidier 1872 is the type species of the genus Mesomycterus COPE 1892, a synonym of Brachyseps, fide Shea 2021.
