CommentDiagnosis: Cnemaspis caudanivea differs from all other southeast Asian Cnemaspis in having the unique combination of a maximum SVL of 44.0 mm; eight or nine supralabials; eight infralabials; scales of anterior portion of forearm keeled; smooth ventral scales; no femoral pores; two, widely space, precloacal pores; no linearly arranged row of tubercles on the flanks; paravertebral and lateral longitudinal rows of caudal tubercles; smooth subcaudals lacking an enlarged median row; one or two cloacal tubercles; large, shield-like subtibial scales; enlarged submetatarsal scales beneath first metatarsal; 24–29 subdigital lamellae on fourth toe; no distinct, large, dark spots on neck and back; no white markings on flanks; dark bands encircling tail; and posterior 25% of tail brilliant, immaculate white.
Etymologynamed after the Latin noun “cauda” meaning ‘‘tail’’ and niveus, an adjective meaning ‘‘of snow or snow-like’’. Caudanivea means ‘‘tail snow white’’ and refers to the brilliant, white coloration of the posterior portion of this species’ tail.
