Diagnosis 
CommentAllozyme and mitochondrial DNA data, together with morphological support and field information, provide compelling evidence that Cuora serrata is of hybrid origin with Cuora galbinifrons and Pyxidea mouhotii as parental species. C. ‘‘serrata’’ originates from both female galbinifrons and bourreti.(PARHAM et al. 2001, STUART & PARHAM 2004). Struijk & Blanck 2016 show that C. serrata is a hybrid of C. picturata x Cuora mouhotii obsti.

Karyotype: 2n = 52 (Bickham and Carr, 1983). 
EtymologyNamed after Alexandre Henri Mouhot (1826-1861), a French traveler who is best known for having rediscovered Ankhor Wat in Cambodia (ca. 1859).

Cuora mouhotii obsti was named after Fritz-Jürgen Obst (3 Apr 1939 - 10 Jun 2018), former director of the “Staatliche Museum für Naturkunde, Dresden” (MTKD).
