Type locality: Bruny Is., Tasmania (original description cites Australia).

Holotype: unknown, from Lake St. Clair, Tasmania [Hemispheriodon tasmanicum] 
DiagnosisDiagnosis: A moderately large Cyclodomorphus (maximum SVL 174 mm), differing from all other species in the genus in the combination of prefrontals usually contacting, postnarial groove absent, postmental usually contacting two infralabials on each side, subcaudal scales 68-84, and dorsal colour pattern often present and
complex in adults (dark edges to scales and dark streaks basally and centrally on scales). (Shea 1995) 
CommentSynonymy: Lygosoma (Homolepids) petersi STERNFELD 1919 is a nomen novum pro Lygosoma mulleri PETERS 1878 but its redescription is based on specimens of Tiliqua branchialis from Hermannsburg Mission, Upper Finke River, N. T. (fide COGGER 1983).

Synonymy: KAISER et al. 2013 rejected all names coined by WELLS in or after 2000. However, Zeusius sternfeldi WELLS 2007 is not a synonym of Cyclodomorphus casuarinae, as pointed out by KAISER et al. but of Cyclodomorphus venustus (Glenn Shea, pers. comm. 3 Apr 2013).

Distribution: Found in the Southern Highlands of NSW by Sean Krueger (pers. comm.; 7 Feb 2010). Listed by COGGER (2000) only for Tasmania.

Type species: Cyclodus casuarinae DUMÉRIL & BIBRON 1839: 749 is the type species of the genus Cyclodomorphus FITZINGER 1843.

Distribution: not in NSW (fide Swan et al. 2017, Field Guide NSW); due to taxonomic revision now restricted to Tasmania. 
EtymologyNamed after the ship Casuarina, the third of the ships of the Baudin Expedition of 1801-04, on which expedition the type was collected. (G. Shea, pers. comm., 9 Feb 2024)
