Type locality: Vinh Hai, Ninh Hai district, Ninh Thuan province, south Vietnam, (11°39 N 109°34 E), collected by Nguyen Quang Truong 04182002, elevation of ~400 m.

TypesHolotype: IEBR 842, adult male, (Figs. 1 – 5) 
DiagnosisDiagnosis: The large gecko — snout-vent length 94 mm, tail length 120 mm. Male with well developed nine V-shaped preanal pores. There are 8 enlarged femoral scales on each side; however, femoral pores are present only on three of them, located closer to a knee bend. Roundish-triangular dorsal tubercles with well developed keels are placed at 16 – 18 not regular longitudinal rows. The tail is weakly segmented, the segments are formed by roundish-keeled tubercles, which are placed on dorsal part of a tail and slightly developed on lateral parts. Such semiring at the basis of a tail consist of 6 tubercles, in the middle of the tail — of 4 tubercles, and in the last third of the tail the segments are absent. The inferior tail surface is covered with one row of dilated scales, which width is larger than its height. 
CommentHabitat: trees above water near rocky stream in evergreen forest

Abundance: only known from the type locality (Meiri et al. 2017). 
EtymologyA new species is named after well-known late biologist, former director of the Institute of Ecology and Biological Resources, professor Cao Van Sung, who made considerable contribution into development of Vietnamese zoology and wide international cooperation of IEBR.
