Type locality: Warm forests on eastern slopes of Andes in Peru.

Diagnosis 
CommentSynonymy that of PETERS & DONOSO-BARROS 1970. Werner 1901 already speculatules in his description that Cnemidophorus centropyx is very similar to heterolepis and possibly the same species.
