Diagnosis 
CommentSynonymy mainly after Ota (1988).

Types: The types of Japalura yunnanensis popei were supposedly from Cambodia but OTA (2000) assumes that they were from Taiwan and labelled erroneously.

Karyotype: The number of chromosomes in this species can differ between populations (here: 2n=46, 40 and 36 chromosomes) as shown by Ota (1988) 
EtymologyNamed after Robert Swinhoe (1836-1877), born in Calcutta, India, but educated at London University (1852).
