DiagnosisDiagnosis: Savage & Lips (1993) and Savage et al. (2008) distinguish Diploglossus and Celestus on the basis of the presence (Diploglossus) or absence (Celestus) of claw sheaths, respectively. 
CommentType Species: Tiliqua fasciatus is the type species of the genus Diploglossus WIEGMANN 1834. Content fide Schools & Hedges 2021 (i.e. Diploglossus s. str.): Ten species (Table 3): Diploglossus delasagra, D. fasciatus, D. garridoi, D. lessonae, D. microlepis, D. millepunctatus, D. monotropis, D. montisserrati, D. nigropunctuatus, and D. pleii.

Higher taxa: Diploglossus is here assigned to Diploglossidae based on the paraphyly with Anguidae in Zheng & Wiens 2016. Many other recent authors included the genus in Anguidae: Diploglossinae.

Synonymy: partly after BRYGOO 1987.

Habitat: Wetmorena, Sauresia are some Diploglossus are soil-adapted ecomorphs (Schools et al. 2022). 
EtymologyNamed after Latin fascia = band, for the dorsal cross-bands in this species.
