Type locality: Iran, Kerman province, Sarduieh region, Babe Karafs village, (29°16’ N 57°15’ E), 2800 m elevation.

Paratype. Adult Male, ICSTZM7H1064. The same data as Holotype (Fig. 4).
|Diagnosis||Diagnosis. Eirenis kermanensis sp. nov. differs from Eirenis medus by a combination of meristic and morphometric characters. In the meristic point of view, the Kerman specimens have a higher number of subcaudal scales (63 in males, compared to 52 – 54 (52.75 ± 0.48) in males of Eirenis medus and 59 in female compare to 44 – 48 (45.5 ± 0.96) in females of Eirenis medus). Also the number of labial scales in Eirenis kermanensis sp. nov. shows a tendency to reduction [six supralabials, instead of seven in Eirenis medus (Table 1)]. Subsequently in morphometric characters, the percent ratio of tail length on total length (TLGTOL × 100) in the new Eirenis is higher than in Eirenis medus (25 in males whereas 20.73 – 22.57 (21.28 ± 0.44) in Eirenis medus; 22.07 in females whereas 16.37 – 18.09 (16.99 ± 0.40) in Eirenis medus. Additionally, in Eirenis medus, the loreal scale is longer than deep, whereas in the new Eirenis, the loreal scale is deeper than long (Fig. 6). Concerning the color pattern, in Eirenis kermanensis sp. nov. the dorsal crossbars at mid body are wider than in typical Eirenis medus (one scale wide in Eirenis kermanensis sp. nov. compared to half a scale wide in Eirenis medus (Fig. 5 in RABIZADEH et al. 2012).|
|Etymology||Eirenis kermanensis sp. nov. is named after the Kerman Province, the largest province of Iran in its southeastern part with very different ecosystems from high mountains in the west to a hot desert in the east and from high elevated plains in the north to low coastal plains in the south — the herpetofauna of which has been studied poorly up to now.|
