BROADLEY (1998) elevated E. s. boulengeri to species status based on slightly differrent colour patterns. Synonymy mostly after BROADLEY in GOLAY et al. 1993: 134.

Distribution: reports from South Africa probably refer to E. boulengeri, previously a subspecies of Elapsoidea semiannulata.
