DiagnosisDiagnosis: Subocular not bordering mouth (Fig. 92); fourth toe with distinct fringe on both lateral and medial sides; ungual lamellae offingers and toes with prominent, flat, lateral expansions; scales of flanks not larger than those ofback; series of broad plates on lower surface of tibia more than twice as broad as adjacent scales (Anderson 1999: 211). 
CommentNot listed in BISCHOFF, Lizards of the World: Lacertidae. Not in the Zoological Record of 1896.

Synonymy: S. aporosceles is a synonym of Eremias acutirostris (fide SHCHERBAK 1974) but valid fide Anderson (1999) and Das (1992). Khan et al. 2020 confirmed the synonymy based on DNA sequence data (but appreciate that there are morphological differences).

Distribution: See map in SMID et al. 2014 for distribution in Iran. 
EtymologyNamed after Latin “acuere” = sharp, or “acutus” = sharpened, pointed, or “acumen” = tip, or “acus” = needle; “rostrum” = beak, proboscis, or trunk.
