Diagnosis 
CommentDistribution: Records from Fiji are in error. Manthey & Grossmann (1997) doubt the occurrence of G. vittatus on Java. The original type locality (“Zekerlyk uit de Indië”) means “certainly from India” and is thus in error. Not in Timor (pers. comm., M. O’Shea 12. Nov. 2013).

Synonymy: after WERMUTH 1965 and RÖSLER et al. 2012.

Type species: Gekko vittatus Houttuyn, 1782, is the type species of the subgenus Sundagekko Wood et al. 2019 and its replacement name Lomatodactylus Wood et al. 2020. 
EtymologyNamed after Latin “vittatus” for ribbon, or decorated by a ribbon, referring to the dorsal stripe in the species.

The genus name Sundagekko is a masculine noun, derived from the English noun formed from the combination of the term “Sunda” and “gekko,” collectively referring to the continental extension of Indochina referred to as Sundaland, which is composed of the Malay Peninsula, Sumatra, Borneo, Java, Bali and other small Island archipelagos in the Western Philippine Sea.
