Type locality: Three miles south of Putla, Oaxaca, Mexico.

russatus: Mexico (Oaxaca: Sierra de Miahuatlán); Type locality: La Concepción, near Putla, Oaxaca, México.

TypesHolotype: INHS (= UIMNH) 57170, adult female collected 29 June 1964 by R. Altig.
Holotype: INHS (= UIMNH) 61409, adult male collected 25 May 1965 by T. MacDougall [russatus] 
Diagnosis 
CommentSynonymy: Geophis russatus was considered as synonym of G. laticollaris by Pavón-Vázquez et al. (2011) and Heimes 2016: 244. This was confirmed by Palacios-Aguilar et al. 2022. Geophis laticollaris was synonymized with G. sallaei by Downs (1967), but later resurrected by Smith & Chiszar (1992) after examining materials acquired subsequent to publication of Downs’ work.
