Type locality: "d'île de France." [=Mauritius Is.] (in error). Corrected to "Madagascar" by Duméril, Bibron and Duméril, 1854b: 1122. Map legend:

TypesHolotype: MNHN 3852, a 1325-1340 mm male (Lesson and Garnot). 
CommentSynonymy partly after BOULENGER 1896. Records from Comoro are doubtful (WALLACH & GLAW 2009).

Behavior: this species is diurnal, despite the name “night snake” that is sometimes used.
