DistributionS Brazil (Goias, Minas Gerais, SE Mato Grosso, Sao Paulo, Mato E Grosso do Sul, S Tocantins, SW Bahia), Bolivia

Type locality: São Paulo, Brazil.
Reproductionoviparous
TypesHolotype: SMF 11672 (formerly 5341a)
DiagnosisDiagnosis. Distinguished from striata and borckiana by mostly small dorsal scales at midbody, that gradually increase in size from the ventrals to the midbody line, rather than enlarged dorsals meeting small lateral granules; distinguished from vanzoi by 15-22 femoral pores, rather than 8-11; distinguished from viridistriga by a narrow middorsal stripe that extends from the parietal region of the head, branching near the forelimbs of adults, and forming two stripes that gradually separate and then coalesce at the base of the tail, rather than a solid middorsal band that extends from the parietal region, widening posteriorly, reaching its greatest width midway between the axilla and groin, and then gradually narrowing until reaching its most posterior point near the base of the tail; distinguished from altamazonica, calcarata and pelviceps by three to four distinct dorsolateral light stripes (per side) rather than zero to two, and by scales of the rump comparable in size, not smaller than the supracaudals. (Gallagher & Dixon 1992: 142)
CommentDistribution: See map in Oliviera-Drummond et al. 2014 and Gallagher & Dixon 1992: 144 (Fig. 8). Probably in Bolivia (fide LANGSTROTH 2005).
EtymologyNamed after the type locality (São Paulo); Gallagher & Dixon 1992 speculate that the name may be derived from the Latin word paulus, meaning small and the Latin word ens, meaning the condition, in reference to the smallness of the species relative to most other Kentropyx.
