Type locality: “in den Poroto-Bergen, Süd-Tansania, ungef. 9° 0' S, 33°45' O”.  
Reproduction 
TypesHolotype: lost, formerly ZFMK 88383 (lost, in fact stolen in a car break-in after its ZFMK registration number was assigned, but before it reached the museum, fide BAUER 2015: 280). 
DiagnosisDiagnosis: “Kinyongia vanheygeni n. sp. gehört mit einer Gesamtlänge von ca. 15 cm zu den kleineren Chamäleonarten. Der Schwanz ist deutlich länger als die Kopf-RumpfLänge. Die Körperbeschuppung ist leicht heterogen, die der Extremitäten und des Schwanzes homogen. Der Kopf ist relativ lang und trägt einen deutlichen Helm, welcher sich erst hinter den Orbiten durch den gewölbten Parietalkamm deutlich erhöht und das Niveau des Rückens deutlich überragt. Über der Maulspitze befindet sich ein Nasenfortsatz, welcher auf seiner Oberseite zwei parallele Längsreihen aus je drei vergrößerten konischen Schuppen trägt. Kinyongia vanheygeni n. sp. unterscheidet sich von allen bisher bekannten Kinyongia-Arten durch die einzigartige Form des Nasenfortsatzes und des Helmes.” 
Comment 
Etymologynamed after Emmanuel van Heygen of Belgium who took the first photographs of the new species in the wild.
