Type locality: Poirenaro (= Patzcuaro), Michoacan, Mexico  
TypesHolotype: USNM 46558 (said to be L. t. arcifera by Williams 1978: 187) 
CommentHybridization: L. alterna hybridizes with L. ruthveni (Hornig 2014).
