DiagnosisDiagnosis (genus Hispaniolus): The similarity of this genus to Leiocephalus in head scalation and in general proportions is fairly evident on comparison. The complete
absence of dorsal or caudal crests in Hispaniolus serves to separate the two genera completely, however. The color pattern is likewise highly dissimilar. The range of Hispaniolus is not yet known to extend for more than a few miles from the actual type locality. (Cohran 1941: 241)
CommentIllustrations: Cochran, 1941; Schwartz, 1979.

Type species: Hispaniolus pratensis COCHRAN 1928: 50 is the type species of the genus Hispaniolus COCHRAN 1928.

Etymology not explicitly given by Cochran 1928.

Abundance: Rare. This is one of the species called 'lost' and 'rediscovered' by Lindken et al. 2024.
