DiagnosisDiagnosis: “Rückenflecken hell, zahlreich und dicht beieinander stehend,
so daß ihre dunklen Ränder ein grobmaschiges Netzwerk bilden. Flanken sehr
ähnlich wie bei der Nominatrasse mit orange- oder ziegelroten und schwarzen
Querbändern, diese jedoch weniger markant als bei der Nominatrasse. 6-7
Schuppen quer um die Mitte auf der Unterseite der Tibia, etwa 3 Dorsalschuppen
entsprechen der Breite einer Bauchschuppe. 13-16 Femoralporen jederseits.” (Mertens 1961: 510). 
CommentSynonymy: Has been considered a synonym of Leiolepis belliana by SMITH 1935 and others.

Subspecies: Leiolepis reevesii rubritaeniata MERTENS 1961 has been elevated to full species status.

Phylogenetics: L. reevesii and L. belliana do not appear to be completely separated with multiple lineages, hence their status remains debatable (Grismer et al. 2014).

Hybridization: Leiolepis belliana and L. guttata can hybridize with L. reversii (JANČÚCHOVÁ-LÁSKOVÁ et al. 2015). 
EtymologyNamed after John Reeves (1774-1856), naturalist and collector who sent specimens of plants and animals back to Britain. Reeves was employed by the East India Company as an ‘Inspector of Tea’ and lived in China from 1812 to 1831. Note that Steijneger (1907) stated that John Russell Reeves (1804-1877), the son of John Reeves, sent the material to Gray, so there is a chance of confusion here.
