cussiliris: México (Tamaulipas [Sierra Madre], to Chiapas, Guerrero, Oaxaca, Hidalgo, Puebla, Veracruz, Morelos); elevation from 0-2000 m; Type locality: Rancho Poso Rio, 6 kilometers south of Tehuantepec, Oaxaca, Mexico.

Diagnosis 
CommentSynonymy mostly after DUELLMAN 1958. Not listed by WALLACH et al. 2014 (although its index lists Megalops maculatus with page 360 where it is not found).

Distribution: endemic to Mexico fide Wilson et al. 2010. Not in Jalisco fide CRUZ-SÁENZ et al. 2017. The type locality is “probably Nicaragua” (fide SMITH 1944) but according to Wilson et al. 2010 this is most likely wrong. The original type locality (”Tahiti”) is erroneous.

cussiliris: México (Tamaulipas [Sierra Madre], to Chiapas, Guerrero, Oaxaca, Hidalgo, Puebla, Veracruz); elevation from 0-2000 m; Type locality: Rancho Poso Rio, 6 kilometers south of Tehuantepec, Oaxaca, Mexico.

Habitat: partly arboreal (Harrington et al. 2018). 
EtymologyFrom the latin word macula, meaning "spot, stain, or mark", in reference to the dorsal pattern (Lemos-Espinal & Dixon 2013).
