Pungwe Flats, Mozambique (19°22'S: 34°22'E). Map legend:

TypesHolotype: NMZB-UM 7251 (juvenile female). Collected by D.G. Broadley on 8 November 1963. 
CommentLeptotyphlops pungwensis is sympatric with L. longicaudus (Peters) and L. scutifrons (Peters).

This is one of the smallest snakes with an adult total length of <105 mm.

Known only from the holotype. 
Etymologynamed after its type locality.
