Type locality: Port Elizabeth, Algoa Bay (in error), corrected to D’Urban (=Durban), Port Natal (=Natal) by GURNEY 1860).

Type species: Uriechis microlepidotus GÜNTHER 1860 is the type species of the genus Macrelaps BOULENGER 1897.
