CommentType species: Ptyctolaemus phuwuanensis MANTHEY & NABHITABHATA 1991 is the type species of the genus Mantheyus ANANJEVA & STUART 2001.

Ptyctolaemus phuwuanensis was assigned to the genus Ptyctolaemus Peters, 1864 because it shared the character of three parallel folds on each side of the throat with P. gularis. “Mantheyus phuwuanensis differs from Ptyctolaemus and all other draconines by the presence of femoral pores, and from all other agamids by having the combination of femoral pores and haired skin sense organs” (Ananjeva and Stuart 2001).
EtymologyThe specific epithet is derived from the name of the type locality.

The genus Mantheyus is named after Ulrich Manthey for his contributions to Southeast Asian herpetology.
