Etymology | Named after Latin scuti- a shield or scale and venter meaning belly; scutiventris, one with ventral scales, probably alludes to the relatively high number of ventrals in this species. The names schmidti and karlschmidti are dedications to Karl P. Schmidt, the late curator of herpetology at the Field Museum of Natural History Chicago. |
