CommentDescription: black and white stripes.

Type species: Dipsas betsileana GÜNTHER 1880 is the type species of the genus Parastenophis Domergue, 1995.

Definition and description of Parastenophis: Typically 7 (range: 6–8) upper
labials (usually 3rd and 4th touching eye); 8–11 lower labials; usually no or one loreal scale; typically 23 rows of dorsal scales at mid-body (21 in ZFMK 63175); 19 rows of dorsal scales at the last ventral (17 in ZFMK 63175); 209–236 ventral scales; anal plate divided; 77–105 subcaudals (always divided); pupil is a broad vertical ellipse when contracted; hemipenis massif, biapical. Etymologynamed after the type locality.
