| Comment | Uncommon and restricted to a few localities.
Behavior: Appears to be extremely secretive.
Type species: Eumeces garnieri Bavay 1869 is the type species of the genus Monophorus COPE 1892, a nomen oblitum and a synonym of Phoboscincus, fide Shea 2021. |
| Etymology | Named after Jules (or "Jacques") Gamier (1839-1904), a mining engineer, geologist, and explorer who discovered nickel ore in New Caledonia (1864). |
