Comment | Distribution: Not in Oman (Carranza et al. 2018). For a map see Sindaco et al. 2013 (who showed one locality at the extreme SW tip of Oman). |
Etymology | Named after Latin (variō "change, alter" + -bilis "added to a verb to form an adjective noun of relationship to that verb") for "changeable". This presumably refers to the wide range of coloration seen in the species ["... exhibit a surprising amount of colour variation" (Boulenger 1905). |
