Diagnosis	Diagnosis: “GL bis 245 mm (Eisentraut 1950). Robuste Inselart der west-mediterranen Podarcis-Gruppe (sensu Arnold 1973*), die sich von der engstverwandten P. lilfordi durch 50-72 (gegenüber 59-91) schwach gekielte (gegenüber glatten) Dorsalia um die Körpermitte unterscheidet. Eventuell sogar artgleich mit letzterer (Bischoff 1973).” (Salvador 1986: 231)
Comment	Synonymy: Podarcis pityusensis canaretensis CIRER 1980 doesn’t seem to be recognized by most authors but we don’t know of any formal synonymization. CIRER 1987 recognizes only 6 subspecies (as listed by SINDACO & JEREMCENKO 2008). Lacerta lilfordi formenterae MÜLLER 1928 was described independently of Lacerta lilfordi formenterae EISENTRAUT 1928, but both are synonyms. Similarly, Lacerta lilfordi frailensis MÜLLER 1928 is a synonym of Lacerta lilfordi frailensis EISENTRAUT 1928 which was published one month earlier (Franzen & Glaw 2007). BUCHHOLZ 1954 listed gastabiensis as synonym of espalmadoris. The status of some subspecies described by Buchholz 1954 remains unclear; subformenterae, puercosensis, and purroigensis are preliminarily listed as synonyms of pityusensis (as they are not listed by Salvador 1986). Types: the types of the Buchholz subspecies are all in the ZFMK (BÖHME 1974).
Etymology	named after the type locality. P. p. maluquerorum has been named after Joaquim Maluquer who provided the types to Mertens. P.p. kameriana is named after the collector of the types, Z. Kamer.
