Diagnosis

Synonymy: The validity of the sub-species raffonei (Mertens 1952), alvearioi (Mertens 1955), cucchiarai Di Palma 1980 and antoninoi (Mertens 1955) is not supported by genetic data (Capula, 2004). 
Etymology"Benannt ist die Rasse, dem Wunsche des Sammlers entsprechend, nach RAFFONE, dem Familiennamen seiner verstorbenen Frau." [= The race has been named, according to the wish of his collector, after RAFFONE, the maiden name of his late wife]. The name therefore has to be P. raffoneae according to MICHELS & BAUER 2005. However, Oscar Arribas (pers. comm., 26 Jul 2016) objected that “The Code [Article 32.5.1] states that gender and species must concordate in grammatical gender, but none about correcting if the sex of the hommaged person is not correctly declined. Raffonae is [thus] an unjustified enmendation.”
