Reproductionoviparous. 
TypesSyntypes: USNM 20966 (stuffed adult male and skull, CL 278 mm), collected by Gustave Kohn, 7 May 1885; USNM 20967 (stuffed adult female and skull, CL 290 mm), collected by Gustave Kohn, 11 May 1885. Originally: “Collection of Mr. G. Kohn, New Orleans, La. This species exists in different museums, with the name P. mobiliensis Holbr.” (from BAUR 1893).

CommentDiet: herbivorous.

Habitat: freshwater (lakes, ponds, rivers) 
EtymologyThe name alabamensis refers to the state of Alabama.
