Type locality: “Maldi (Eritrea)” [= Maldi, S Anseba Prov., N Eritrea, 15°38’N, 38°48’E, elevation 2450 m] (lectotype locality)

Diagnosis 
CommentSynonymy: has been considered as a synonym of P. lemniscatus (e.g. Capocaccia 1961).

Type species: Pseudoboodon gascae PERACCA 1897: 273 is the type species of the genus Pseudoboodon PERACCA 1897.

Bogert (1940) united Pseudoboodon with Ablabophis, Boaedon, Bothrolycus, Bothrophthalmus, Glypholycus, and Lamprophis in his Group I of African colubrids. Ablabophis and Glypholycus are now considered to be synonyms of Lycodonomorphus. All are confined to the continent of Africa, apart from Lamprophis geometricus in the Seychelles. 
EtymologyNamed after Captain A. Gasca, an Italian officer who collected reptiles in Erittea.
