CommentDendragama fruhstorferi is not Acantosaura fruhstorferi (= Calotes brevipes fide WEMUTH 1967).

Synonym partly after MERTENS 1954.

Type species: Calotes tympanistra GRAY 1831 is the type species of the genus Pseudocalotes FITZINGER 1843: 15, 56.

EtymologyPresumably named after Latin tympanum (eardrum) and Latin striga, row or strip of anything, possibly referring to the dark stripe crossing through the eardrum in some specimens.
