Distributionjacobsonii: Indonesia: endemic to Sumatra.

inornatus: Indonesia (Java); Type locality: "Java." Emended to Tjihandjawar (at the foot of Mt. Pangerango, W. Java) by Brongersma, 1950: 1499. [=Tjihandjawo=Cihanyaro, Jawa Barat, western Jawa, southwestern Indonesia, 07˚03'S, 108˚40'E]. Other localities: 07°23’00” S; 107°43’00” E, 06°52’19” S; 106°56’57” E (Rahadian & Das 2013); Type locality: Cihanjawar (06°50’01” S; 106°49’02” E), at the foot of Gunung Pangrango, Jawa Barat Province, Indonesia.

buettikoferi: Indonesia (Kalimantan); Type locality: Liang Kulung, Central Borneo

TypesHolotype: RMNH 233, a 464-470 mm male (H. Kuhl and J.C. Van Hasselt, 1821).
Holotype: RMNH 9505, male, paratypes: RMNH, male + female leg. Dr. J. Büttikofer [buettikoferi]
Holotype: RMNH RA 4693, collected by E. Jacobson in July, 1915 [jacobsonii] 
Diagnosis 
CommentThis species can flare its ”neck” similar to a cobra, hence its name “false cobra”.

Distribution: not listed for Borneo by Stuebing et al. 2014.

Synonymy: Wallach et al. 2014 list buettikoferi as synonym of inornatus.
