Diagnosis 
CommentType species: Coluber blumenbachii MERREM 1820 is the type species of the genus Ptyas FITZINGER 1843. According to WALLACH et al. 2014: 615, Coluber mucosus LINNAEUS 1758 is the type species of Ptyas.

Distribution: Possibly in Bhutan (Lenz 2012). For a map see Sindaco et al. 2013.

Habitat: partly arboreal (Harrington et al. 2018).

Genome: Wang et al. 2023 
EtymologyNamed after Latin “mucosus” = slimy, based on the popular notion that snakes are slimy.

Etymology (genus): from Greek “ptyas” = spitter. The gender of Ptyas is feminine (David & Das 2004).
