Type locality: "Estado do Piauhy, Brazil." [=Piauí State, northwestern Brazil].

TypesHolotype: IB (= IBSP) 513, a 490 mm female (F. Iglesias). 
CommentSynonymy that of PETERS & OREJAS-MIRANDA 1970, following AMARAL 1926.

Type species: Rhinostoma Iglesiasi GOMES 1915 is the type species of the genus Rodriguesophis ZAHER, GRAZZIOTIN, MURPHY, SCROCCHI, ALTAMIRANO, BENAVIDES, ZHANG & BONATTO in GRAZZIOTIN et al. 2012. 
EtymologyA patronym honouring Miguel T. Rodrigues, who dis- covered and described the highly diverse psammophilous herpetofauna of the Sa ̃ o Francisco River.
