Type locality: Gia Lai Province, Tai Nguyen Plateau, Buon Luoi, 60 km N of An Khe, South Vietnam.

Diagnosis 
CommentDAREVSKY et al. (1983) provide a key to Vietnamese Sphenomorphus. 
EtymologyFrom Latin “rufus”, red and “cauda”, tail, referring to the species tail main colour.
