TypesHolotype: MNHN-RA 3240, collected by: Jean Jacques Dussumier (1792–1883), collection date: between 1816 and 1840. 
Diagnosis 
CommentSynonymy: Oligodon subpunctatus A.-M.-C. Duméril & G. Bibron, 1854 (type locality: "Malabar, Inde" [= Malabar Hills/Western Ghats, southwestern India]) has been synonymized with Sibynophis sagittaria (VYAS 2007).

Types: Linnaeus 1758 designated NRM 15 and NRM 86 as syntypes of Coluber melanocephalus, the former of which was later identified as Polyodontophis subpunctatus 
EtymologyNamed after Latin sub (“under”) and pūnctātus, meaning “punctuated, pointed, spotted,” in reference to the dark spots on the belly of species.
