DiagnosisDiagnosis: Stenorrhina freminvillii can be distinguished from all other Honduran snakes, except Stenorrhina degenhardtii, in having the internasal fused to the anterior section of the nasal. Stenorrhina degenhardtii has a blotched, spotted, or nearly uniformly brown dorsum in adults (versus a lineate dorsal pattern in S. freminvillii) (McCranie 2011: 213; diagnosis may not apply to range outside Honduras).
CommentSynonymy after PETERS & OREJAS-MIRANDA 1970.

Behavior: mostly nocturnal

Distribution: not in Panama; reports from Panama are based on misidentifications. Contrary to Peters and Orejas-Miranda (1970) and Villa, Wilson, andJohnson (1988), this species is not known from Panama (Savage 2002).
EtymologyNamed after Christophe-Paulin de la Poix Chevalier de Freminville (1787-1848) was a naval officer and naturalist. For his tragic life details see Beolens et al. 2011.
