DistributionIndonesia (Adonara, Alor, Bali, Flores, Komodo, Lombok, Padar, Rinca, Romang, Roti, Sumba, Sumbawa, Timor, Wetar, Java), Timor-Leste

Type locality: Soe, Timor.
TypesHolotype: NMBA (= NHMB) 12773; paratypes: MHNG
Lectotype: MNHN 4057 [of Trimeresurus viridis Lacépède, 1804]

Subspecies: The subspecies insularis and septentrionalis have been raised to full species status by GIANNASI et al. (2001) based on RFLPs. I [P.U.] don’t believe that sequence polymorphisms are reliable markers for (sub-) species boundaries as they do not serve as a reliable marker for reproductive isolation.

Type species: Trimeresurus viridis LACÉPÈDE 1804 (= Trimeresurus insularis KRAMER 1977) is the type species of Trimeresurus LACÉPÈDE 1804, fide DAVID et al. 2011.
