Type locality: Siquirres, Costa Rica.

TypesHolotype: lost (fide Savage 2002), ERD (formerly MNCR, fide Wallach et al. 2014, who did not explain what “ERD” is), “A male, sent me by the Museo Nacional de Costa Rica, collected by Dr. C. Viquez.” (fide DUNN 1937) 
DiagnosisDiagnosis: Dark dorsal stripes, a red venter, and the absence of light nuchal spots or a collar will separate this form from all other small Costa Rican snakes (Savage 2002: 639). 
CommentSIMILAR SPECIES: (1) Trimetopon slevini has light nuchal spots. (2) All other Trimetopon have light nuchal markings and a yellowish to white venter. (3) Tantilla vermiformis has a single middorsal dark stripe and light-colored parietal tips (Savage 2002: 639).

Abundance: Rare. This is one of the species called 'lost' and 'rediscovered' by Lindken et al. 2024. 
EtymologyNamed after the collector of the type, Dr. C. Viquez.
