DiagnosisDescription (coronata): “Auge ziemlich klein, Schnauze zweimal länger als ein Augendiameter, vorne fast quer abgestutzt. Rostrale mehr als zweimal breiter als hoch. Internasalia etwas mehr als halb so lang wie die Praefrontalia. Frontale kaum langer als breit und fast ebenso lang wie sein Abstand vom vorderen Schnauzenrande. Parietalia circa 1.33 mal länger als das Frontale. Nasale getheilt, Loreale viereckig, ebenso hoch wie lang. 2 Prae-, 2 Postocularia. Supralabialia 8, das 4. und 5. das Auge begrenzend. Die beiden Kinnschilderpaare schmal, von gleicher Lange. Rücken und Seiten bräunlich violett, 2 gelbliche Linien an den Seiten des Rumpfes, die untere derselben vereinigt sich in der Mundwinkelgegend mit der gelben Kopflinie, die kranzförmig uber die Oberlippenschilder und das Rostrale zieht und hinter den Mundwinkeln über die 4. Querschuppenreihe hinter den Parietalschildern über den Vorderrücken ansteigt. Sq. 17. V. 147. Anale getheilt. Nahe verwandt mit U. lateristriga (Berth.) Cope.” (Steindachner 1901) 
CommentSynonymy and subspecies mainly after PETERS & OREJAS-MIRANDA 1970.

Types: The holotype of Dromicus frenatus PETERS 1863: 278 (ZMB 2126) was formerly thought to be lost, but is present.

Distribution: not in Venezuela (Luis Esqueda, pers. comm., 21 April 2016, see also Natera-Mumaw et al. 2015).
