DiagnosisDiagnosis: “Polytypische Art, nächstverwandt mit A. kitaibelii. Augenregion wie bei dieser Art. Tympanal-Öffnung winzig, oft schlitzförmig (0,1 mm im Mittel), regional ganz fehlend. 2. Supraciliare etwas schmäler als bei A. kitaibelii (B/L im Mittel 40-50%). Interparietale schmäler als lang (im Mittel 80-100%). Rumpfschuppen stets 18. Rückenzeichnung und Ventraliarandung ähnlich A. kitaibelii; Bauch beim Männchen gelblich bis rotorange” (Schmidtler 1997: 40).

EtymologyNamed after Sergius Alexandrovich Chernov (1903-1964) (obituary in Copeia 1964: 466, and Doronin 2021 for further biographical notes).

A. c. isauriensis was named after "Isaurien" the antique name of a landscape in the north of its range.
